2008 Green Building Recognition Awards by the Reno City Council

The 2008 Green Building Recognition Awards by the City Council is designed to enhance the City’s efforts to reduce its impact on the environment and provide leadership in the community to encourage residents and businesses to join in this effort.
Categories for the awards were: industrial, public building, commercial, office property, and residential. Awards were presented to thefollowing:
• Industrial - Patagonia for their LEED Gold certified building, natural ventilation, tracking skylights, solar photovoltaics, and solar radiant heating of warehouse.
• Public Building - Joe Crowley Student Union for extensive use of daylighting, solar PV system, solar orientation, energy efficient appliances, and recycled materials for interiors.
• Commercial - Somersett Town Square for light pollution reduction, sub-surface irrigation watering system, solatube lighting-natural light, and fans which bring fresh-air into all building areas.
• Office property - Cathexes for urban in-fill, re-use of existing building and daylighting.
• Residential - Eight on Center for urban in-fill, high density, high insulated envelope from R30-R45, 1" dual, insulated glazing with thermally broken frames, high efficiency mechanical equipment, appliances, hot water, heaters, natural day lighting and ventilation, concrete masonry units, bamboo flooring, reflective white roof membrane, low VOC paints, drip irrigation and no turf, and a designated recycling area.
